Billboard organiza premiação para os astros do pop global

A Billboard anunciou no dia 22 de abril os finalistas indicados para o Billboard Music Awards 2013, que ocorrerá na noite de 19 de maio, às 21h (horário de Brasília), na MGM Grand Garden Arena, em Las Vegas, Estados Unidos. A noite de premiação será transmitida ao vivo para os EUA pela rede ABC.

Entre os indicados nas diversas categorias, há astros  como Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction, Rihanna e Taylor Swift – que concorrem ao maior prêmio, o de Top Artist. Também disputam o prêmio grupos e artistas como fun., Carly Rae Jepsen, Coldplay, Mumford & Sons e Adele, que levou 12 prêmios dos 18 ao qual foi indicada na cerimônia do ano passado.

Maroon 5, fun., e Taylor Swift receberam 11 indicações cada um e são os artistas mais indicados ao prêmio nesse ano, seguidos por Rihanna – que, após concorrer em 18 categorias em 2011 e 13, em 2012, recebeu 10 indicações. Enquanto isso, a novata Carly Rae Jepsen, que apareceu no último verão americano com o hit “Call Me Maybe”, recebeu nove indicações, seguida de perto pelos britânicos da One Direction, que tiveram outras sete, além da de Top Artist.

O Billboard Music Awards, ou BBMA, é um prêmio realizado pela revista Billboard desde 1989 – com uma interrupção entre 2007 e 2010. Os artistas indicados para o prêmio são escolhidos com base na lista de sucessos (intitulada top charts) da revista Billboard, nos EUA. “Há, por trás de cada indicação, o verdadeiro mérito do artista  em execução e vendas, além das campanhas paralelas e do lobby, entre outros fatores”, explica o programador de canais de áudio, estudioso de rhythm n´blues e jazz e DJ Marcos Aurélio Corello Ferreira.

De acordo com Ferreira, os prêmios são responsáveis por alavancar a carreira dos artistas – inclusive dos consagrados. “A simples indicação já rende muitos dividendos, como, por exemplo, a alta circulação e exposição de seus sucessos, sempre precedidos, no rádio, pelo comentário do locutor – que cita que o artista está concorrendo ao prêmio”, diz Ferreira.
